     Scaling a Green Summit

Staff Report

The second in the Lakehill Preparatory School Environmental Summit speaker series takes place Wednesday at the school’s Alice and Erle Nye Family Environmental Science Center, itself a LEED silver certified facility.

The symposium features Carol Henry, buyer for Green Living in Lakewood, who will speak on the changes individuals can make in their consuming habits. Her “Principles of Green Living” will show participants how to improve their ecological awareness and make better choices toward a more sustainable way of life.

Bruce Bagelman, founder and owner of Green Spot Market and Fuels, will speak on “The Environment, Sustainability, and You.” Gov. Rick Perry recently appointed Bagelman to the Texas Bioenergy Policy Council. He also played an instrumental role in establishing the White Rock Local Market and now serves on its board of directors.

Anna Clark — her again — president of EarthPeople and speaker at the first Environmental Summit, will be on hand to sign her new book, “Green, American Style.”

The event starts at 8:30 a.m., April 28, at the Nye Center. It begins with a light breakfast during which co-sponsor Crosby Catering and Coffee serves up its organic, fair trade brew o’ the bean. It also includes multiple vendors exhibiting their brands of eco-goods and services.

For more information about the Environmental Summit, to reserve a place at the free event, or to find out about opportunities to speak or secure exhibit space, contact Gigi Ekstrom. Although there is no cost to attend or exhibit at the event, reservations are required.
